Fedora 16 Freezes after log-in

Hey all! I am attempting to dual-boot fedora 16 with windows 7 on an Acer 5250-BZ455. It has an AMD E-350 processor, AMD Radeon HD 6310 graphics card, and 3 gigs of DDR3 Memory. After install, the system boots well the first couple of times then begins to hang after log-in. Any suggestions?

Re: Fedora 16 Freezes after log-in

Update: After logging into windows 7, Fedora usually gets "jealous" and boots. I am, however, having another problem. Fedora apparently does not like my wireless card. It all works fine, once you get a wireless network to connect automatically. Trying to add a new wireless network is a pain in the butt because it will often freeze after typing in the password. I believe it is a problem during the actual connecting sequence because this doesn't happen if you enter the wrong password... Any help? PLEEEASE?

Re: Fedora 16 Freezes after log-in

Sorry about my absense...

dmesg|grep EE gave this output:
[0.000000] 3 base 0AEEBD000 mask FFFFFF000 uncachable
[22.547134] ath: EEPROM reg domain: 0x65
[22.547143] ath: EEPROM indicates we should expect a direct regpair map

For some reason, dmesg|grep Wireless and dmesg|grep wifi gave no output at all... just went down to the next line.

Does this help? (not very good at this stuff, so I have no idea what this means).

What's the kernel's version?
May be this thread is related?

Re: Fedora 16 Freezes after log-in

No... It's different... The wireless works fine if the system can get past the freeze... It's very strange. I really don't have any explanation. (obviously, since I am posting this question)... Strangely, Kubuntu and Ubuntu (11.10) both do the same thing. (hopefully haven't broken sacred protocol by mentioning those here :-). For the record, I liked Fedora better... but I'm now running Kubuntu because the new Update somehow destroyed most of my data, ruined Grub and, through a series of unfortunate events, wiped my entire hard drive, including the windows side :-(. So... now all I've got is linux.

Back to the problem, I think it may actually be an inherent problem with the wireless card itself... I believe it was using the ATHEROS chipset, but I can't remember which one... What is the command to check that again?

Thanks again for your help!

Re: Fedora 16 Freezes after log-in

Hmm you might try this:
Code:
for e in Wirel wifi EE ather Ather ATHER; do dmesg|grep $e; done
EDIT:
for me this returns only:
Quote:
[ 15.640119] Loading firmware rtlwifi/rtl8192sefw.bin
as i dont have an Atheros wifi...

Hope this helps.
