Networking?

Hey all I hope you are well.

A friend said I can access files on one computer from another when they are both plugged into the DSL modem.

I have DSL and I am wireless on the laptop. I sure could enjoy accessing media files on the Desktop from the laptop or other files.

How is this done?

Over the years from the Z80 Radio Shack Model I/III clone by LNW-Research with 96 kbytes ( it ran CPM) and the 128kbyte floppy discs and 300 bps modem to today with an AMD 8-Core with 32 GB of ram and 4TB drive space and 6 mbps DSL things have changed a great deal in my life so far.

Time to learn more but I fear there isn't enough time to learn it all before it advances again.
