Hello people,

I'd like to have some help about Flash Player installation on my almost brand new Fedora 16 i686 setup...

Although I've followed every each installation step those have already writen on the Fedora's Flash Wiki link, it didn't work for me exactly... So, I'm sharing the results below:

[fcas@localhost İndirilenler]$ su -c 'rpm -ivh adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch.rpm'
Parola:

Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: adobe-linux-i386. Please verify its path and try again

Then, I tried it again, but, the machine still keeps showing some errors:

[fcas@localhost İndirilenler]$ su -c 'rpm -ivh adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch.rpm'su -c 'yum install nspluginwrapper alsa-plugins-pulseaudio flash-plugin'

So please, any useful help would be appreciated...

THANKS...

You have no space here, su -c 'rpm -ivh adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch.rpm'su -c 'yum install nspluginwrapper alsa-plugins-pulseaudio flash-plugin' That's a typo that will cause problems.
Try
PHP Code:
su
yum clean all
yum install nsplugin
-wrapper alsa-plugins-pulseaudio flash-plugin
Also, please post the output of these commands.
PHP Code:
yum repolist
cat
/etc/yum.repos.d/adobe-linux-i386.repo

Re: Adobe Flash Player Installation on Fedora 16 i686

I don't bother with any of that Adobe repository nonsense. What I do is:

a) Visit the Adobe website and download the .tgz of the appropriate bitness.
b) Untar it.
c) Copy libflashplayer.so into the appropriate directory (/usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins for Firefox on 64 bit Fedora in my case), and throw everything else away.
d) Give libflashplayer.so the necessary permissions (755).

That's it.

Re: Adobe Flash Player Installation on Fedora 16 i686

You DO NOT need any of this nsplugin-wrapper crud to nstall a 32 bit flash-plugin into a 32 bit Fedora system.
Once you have installed the Adobe repo and imported the gpg key, which is what you have already done, you then just do:
Code:
su -c 'yum install flash-plugin'
Then restart firefox. It's easier than falling off a log.

You don't need it on 64 bit anymore, either since adobe has a 64 bit flash plugin now.

and as you said, it's so simple to install the flash plugin now.

Just install the adobe repo, then install flash-plugin.

That's all that's needed now.

Much easier than getting the .tgz binaries, and then it will automatically be updated for you as long as you keep the adobe repo enabled.

Hi DBelton,

I have installed F16-64 and being at the beginning of the Fedora learning curve(coming from win xp), I find the command structure mostly confusing. I have consistently failed attempting to install adobe to watch youtube.

I found this thread and of all the responses, yours seems the most timely(not to mention easiest 8~) solution.

So I tried "yum install adobe repo" with no luck, getting:

"[root@wallaby jeb]# yum install adobe repo
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
Setting up Install Process
No package adobe available.
No package repo available.
Error: Nothing to do"

May I ask please for the code to install the adobe repo, then the same to install the flash-plugin?

And another question: how do I keep the adobe repo enabled(or not disabled)?

Thanks in advance for your consideration and help,
jeb3121

Re: Adobe Flash Player Installation on Fedora 16 i686

to install the adobe repo, go to the adobe download site here:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

It should detect your OS as Linux 64 bit.

Select Yum for Linux in the box where it askes you to select version for download, the click the download button.

This will download a file named adobe-release-x86_64-1.0-1.noarch.rpm

That is what you need to install using yum (or rpm)

Open a terminal window
Code:
su -
(root password)

cd <path to where you downloaded the rpm file above>

yum install adobe-release-x86_64-1.0-1.noarch.rpm

once it installs

yum install flash-plugin
You should now have a workable flash plugin

Edit:

To answer the question about keeping the adobe repo enabled. You need do nothing after you install it. It will stay enabled until you disable it.

Hi,

Thanks for your quick response. As it turns out I had already performed most of the setup. I had followed the links to the adobe site, d/l the above file and clicked "Install" in the popups that followed. The only thing I didn't know to do was "yum install flash-plugin." Once that was done...

Thanks again for your help.
