Unable to use 'Gedit'

I am using Fedora 16 64bit and if I want to do any editing I cannot use 'Gedit' which was my favourite editor . Can use 'vi' though . Just wanted to know if 'gedit' has gone out of fashion.
On another question . When I try to download drivers from the Brother website I cannot get passed the 'I agree' stage because of some horrific symbols . Has anyone else experienced this or is this a fault of mine. If it is a fault of mine how can I overcome and gain accessx to the website to download drivers for my Brother DCP385C printer.

Re: Unable to use 'Gedit'

Have you installed gedit?
Code:
su -c "yum install gedit"
If thats not the issue, posting the error message would help.

Dont understand your issue with the webpage download, but since you switch from gedit to vi, try download the file with w3m the cli web browser.

Re: Unable to use 'Gedit'

Check if gedit is installed

Code:
[eric@fedora-netbook ~]$ yum info gedit
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
Available Packages
Name : gedit
Arch : i686
Epoch : 2
Version : 3.2.5
Release : 1.fc16
Size : 2.1 M
Repo : installed
Summary : Text editor for the GNOME desktop
URL : http://projects.gnome.org/gedit/
License : GPLv2+ and GFDL
Try running it from the commandline by simply typing "gedit" at the prompt. Any error messages?

Gedit is still in style.

Re: Unable to use 'Gedit'

It's as easy as this: gedit will not run with "su" but it will with "su -". You need to be in full root ( that - sign) to make it work.

Re: Unable to use 'Gedit'

I had no problem getting past the "I Accept" button for the rpm version of either the LPR driver or the cups wrapper driver at http://welcome.solutions.brother.com....html#DCP-385C. I'm using Firefox 9.0 on Fedora 16.

For both, the download dialogue popped up just as I expected it would after pressing "I Accept". I did not actually download the files because I don't have a Brother printer.

I got the same results using Firefox 8.0.1 on Windows XP.

Re: Unable to use 'Gedit'

Well folks seems like my own Firefox 9 browser is at fault . I downloaded Epiphany browser and I was able to get into the Brother website and download the drivers satisfactorily. Installed them and at least so far I have got the printer going.
