Unknown Bug?

Hi,

I was trying to install Fedora 16 from a USB disk for a 64-bit Sony Vaio S series (with SSD hard drive). I created partitions for root, swap, boot, and home after resizing my original partition. When I hit the button to continue and it started to resize and create the partitions, it stopped and gave an error message like "Bug Encountered" and stopped installing. I tried to copy and paste the bug report but I'm not sure if I did it correctly as it has odd symbols, but I have attached the report (in 3 parts as there was so much text the original notepad file was 2mb and was limited by the forum). Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks

Re: Unknown Bug?

well, the log shows resize of the partition failed. anaconda applies all operations you perform in the partitioner simultaneously when you hit 'next', so it hadn't actually *done* the resize before you started creating partitions in the empty space. essentially it lets you tell it how you want the layout to look when it's done, then does all the work at once.

partition resizing is inherently fragile and sometimes it just doesn't work. you could try again, but if it fails again, it might be best to do the resizing from something like the gparted live CD before installing Fedora, instead of relying on the Fedora installer to do it.

Re: Unknown Bug?

I did the partitioning with GParted like you said and it all worked out fine, thanks a lot!
