Unhappy Media doesn't work !

Hi guys

I am not really sure that I am posting my thread in the perfect place , but I do not actually where it should be , since I am not able to classify the problem a Hardware or Software problem an I am using a laptop .

I am a Windows/Ubuntu user , and everytime I try to use Fedora I face the problem of the disability to play media such as Audio and Video .

When I try to play a Video , the media player gives this message :
http://i41.tinypic.com/hs0zrq.png

After after each time I install Fedora or run as LiveBoot , at the first time I try to play Video and try to serach it take a while searching , and then gives the choice to download some decodes and I choose it , but then I press : "Search" , and It gives this message now :
http://i42.tinypic.com/30sk2ds.png

After it keeps searching at the first time and download the decodes , then gives me the choice to install them , and after I choose it installs them . Even if I install the decodes , or if it's not the first I press "Close" , it gives this message :
http://i39.tinypic.com/10qct9h.png

Then Fedora 16 gives a crash message appears at the bottom of the screen .

If I try to play Audio , the media player appears but doesn't play anything .

I use HP Pavilion dv5 laptop , and the model is 1126em .
please help guys

Re: Media doesn't work !

I don't know about the live one (can you install stuff with the live CD?) but if you have it installed, go to rpmfusion, and install their free and non-free. Then install mplayer or vlc and all should be good.

Re: Media doesn't work !

Hi
thanks a lot for your reply my friend , but I think this just won't work , because I've tried VLC on Fedora 15 when I faced the same problem and that was completely useless

Note : I suffer from this problem in all RPM Linux distributions , except Open SUSE which plays Audio but no video

I'll try what you said anyway , but do you have any other ideas ??

Re: Media doesn't work !

Fedora Setup Guides (above) - try AutoTen to handle it all.

If you've read up on Fedora, you'll know that it's a FOSS distro, which means that codecs for video, mp3's, etc. will NEVER be available on the base installation. http://fedoraproject.org/en/about-fedora So, if you want to play those things, you'll need to use the set-up guides to get 3rd. party software involved.
