VirtualBox USB no workie after FC15 >> FC16

Hi all:

Disclaimer:

I would like to preempt any flames by stating straight out that I'm not sure whether this is a Fedora 16 issue, Kernel 3.1 issue, or VirtualBox issue. I have posted this on the VirtualBox baord as well, and I'm sure others will come across this problem.
I upgraded from FC15 to FC16 using preupgrade. Immediately after upgrading Fedora, I updated my VirtualBox from to 4.1.6 r74713 (from previous 4.1.6 release).

I now get the following error from VirtualBox when I edit my VM settings:

Quote:
Failed to access the USB subsystem.
Could not load the Host USB Proxy service: VERR_DISK_FULL.
Since I have plenty of room on my file system, I'm guessing that this is either a permissions problem or a problem with a change in how the USB pass-through works on kernel 3.1.

A couple of notes:
* I have checked that my VirtualBox extensions are successfully installed, and that I am still a member of vboxusers.
* This is my desktop installation, and has worked well with VirtualBox since it was originally installed years ago as FC11 (this is not a basic installation issue)

Any help is very appreciated.

Thanks

That's your problem. Backup your data and put it out of its misery with a clean install. Unless you choose to dig into the internals... good luck then. Rebuild the kernel module is all the troubleshooting I'd do.

Works here
Code:
$ uname -r
3.1.1-1.fc16.x86_64
$ yum list virtualbox*
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
Installed Packages
VirtualBox-4.1.x86_64                                              4.1.6_74713_fedora16-1                                      @virtualbox

Might be worth just unistalling and reinstalling vbox first, sounds like a permissions issue to me,if you want the easy way use autoplus..

Not really the solution I was looking for. As I said, this is my main workstation and preupgrade has been working well for me since FC11. I would hope that if this is indeed a problem with preupgrade, the Fedora folks would be interested in addressing it.

Obviously, if there's no other fix, I'll probably hold out till not having USB in my VM's becomes too much of a pain, hold my nose and take your suggestion

Hello,

Just add your user to vboxusers group (you can use system-config-users) and then logout/login again. Should be ok

That's set up correctly.

I had the same issue. Go and get the extension again. Uninstall the current one and then install the one you just downloaded. Be sure you do a "yum reinstall bash" first, as the upgrade to F16 likely left your /etc/shells file without a "/bin/bash" entry. If you have already done the bash reinstall, then you should be okay.
