FC15 Grub recovery problem + dual boot (win xp)

Hi,
how am I supposed to boot into rescue mode? I boot my fedora 15 installation cd & i have 5 option:
Boot
Boot (Basic Video)
Verify and Boot
Memory Test
Boot from local drive

In aguide on this forum, i have read to get into rescue mode by "addin linux rescue to boot details". Is it the solution?
Boot after pressing tab shows "vmlinuz0 initrd= [....] rd.dm=0"
Am I supposed to write "rescue"to the end? It doesnt work
So doesn't work "vmlinuz0 rescue" or simple "linux rescue"

My problem is follows: I'm using win XP, then i've installed fedora 15. That's compromised NTLDR files (ie. not possible to boot XP). I used procedure for rescue of NTLDR files, which compromised GRUB.
Now i need to reinstall GRUB without cracking NTLDR files.

My disc:
/dev/sda1 NTFS D: data
/dev/sda2 NTFS C: system (win xp)
/dev/sda3 etc. Fedora

i have installed grub into /dev/sda and it destroyed NTLDR files. Any ideas? Well first, i need to get grub running and then i will try to play with configuration of grub.

Thanks!

The Fedora live CD doesn't have a rescue mode. That works with the DVD (and the formerly available CD sets). But the live CD still can be used to rescue and maintain the system on the hard drive. The difference is you have to manually mount the filesystems for most things you might need to do (the DVD's rescue mode mounts them for you at /mnt/sysimage). Anyway, it's not difficult to learn how to mount filesystems. Here is another thread with some steps. It's old but still applies, and it's about re-installing GRUB but could be adapted to any rescue procedure...

For just re-installing GRUB, you can use the live CD without having to mount filesystems (as the link above mentions). That works with the GRUB shell method (i.e., root, setup, etc.). The grubinstall command requires the busted system to be mounted.

Obviously, you're chasing your tail now. You need to fix one of the two, stop, and configure it to boot the other. There is plenty of help available for either way.

There is a easy way to mount all drives when booting from a livecd. When at the count down screen from the livecd, press tab twice, type "automount" without the quotes at the end of the kernel line. Then press enter and b to boot.

Hi bonetti!

To go into rescue mode,
In case of a live media install (cd/usb), since you have options starting with "vmlinuz" (the boot manager is running)
Choose 'e' or 'Tab' to edit the boot parameter string
type 'single' as a parameter to the end of the options
eg. "vmlinuz0 root=129FS noquiet single"
And you would get into rescue mode. (tested on F17)

Cheers

And a cheery good morning to you!

However, as this thread was last posted to in 2011, and it's 2013, I suspect it may be a bit stale.
