NTFS boot partition unable to boot after shrinking from Fedora Live CD

Hello,

I recently downloaded and burned the Fedora 15 Live CD to try it out. I want to install it on my windows xp computer without deleting the data currently on the hard drive. So I "shrunk" the NTFS partition to provide room for the linux partition, but when I tried to boot windows it was unable to. I tried to mount the NTFS partition while booted to the Fedora Live disk, and got exit code 12. I then ran ntfsfix on the volume, and it seemed to fix some things but now when I try to mount I get "exit code 13: $MFTMirr does not match $MFT (Record 0) Failed to mount '/dev/sda1': Input/output error".

Is there any way I can recover the data on this partition?

Thanks for any help.

Re: NTFS boot partition unable to boot after shrinking from Fedora Live CD

I'd try booting from an XP installation CD and from the recovery console do a chkdsk on the volume. If that fails there is always the "testdisk" Fedora package for trying to recover data.
