What's this 3d game in Fedora 15 repo?

I'm not running Fedora at the moment. I quite liked 15 and used it for six weeks or so but the package manager and a couple of other things were a bit of aggravation.

But although I'm not into games except the, er, mature Solitaire, Chess and Foubillard I did play a game on Fedora that was fun for me as it seemed quite like an arcade game I played on holiday about twenty-five years ago as a kid. I'm hoping the game is out there to install in Linux Mint or Windows 7 - no antagonism intended; I'm 40, Fedora's very good but I couldn't get on with it - from a tarball or better still a .deb file.

The game is in pseudo-3D, it involves obligatory shooting, from a space ship, on some kind of platform which recedes into the distance. other ships shoot back and you have these little blobs to shoot also which improves your firepower. I remember that the title was like a mispelling of Galaxians - glacian or something. There seemed to be a problem, a bug with how it dispensed with your 'lives', which the game's authors might fix at some point in the next fifteen years - oh happy day - but I and my nephews will like it all the same.

Thanks if you can tell me the name of this game.

I did run my live CD this morning but then remembered, or was reminded, how the Mobile Broadband doesn't work until the Updates are done, which ended my own efforts.

I have wasted numerous hours playing that one, Dangermouse

glaxium is a really fun game, one of the few that I play on my systems here except for solitaire and freecell. (I like critical mass (critters) as well, too. )

That's the one! So is it called Glaxium then, I'll have a look around.

The game I played on holiday in about 1985 wasn't quite this one but I remember being excited out of my mind about it at the time, but never saw it again anywhere. that game was like the Death Star bombing from Star Wars sort of, but had no ties to that film, just the shooting was being done in a trench.

Still, it's not real and I'm 40, I must keep reminding myself this, in this dark damp room...

Thanks.

Just downloading the W*nd*ws version...

Only a partial success. The Windows version was too laggy on my laptop, so I tried the Linux source. I'm guessing that going by the program's age the sdl libraries it needs are differently named now and why it won't compile - probably somebody recompiled it for Fedora. Unless instructions are foolproof I've never really understood compiling so I'll give up.

Oh well, that's saved a lot of hours of moderate psychosis...

Yes, I was just saying that I'm not running Fedora at present. Hence the difficulties. Actually the game was briefly it seems available as a 64 bit .deb on Sourceforge, but has now vanished. The game is 11 years old apparently so that explains a few things.

Still, I think we all know that nothing will match tennis on a 1979 Binatone. Bip... bip... bip...
