However the newest update to kernel version 2.6.40 broke the broadcom wireless (no wlan showed up in network manager).
Blacklisting bcma solved the issue for me, too.

Cheers

No. phil75 was referring to blacklisting the bcma module from interfering with broadcom-wl. The BCM4318 cannot use broadcom-wl. It is listed by linuxwireless.org as supported by b43. However, people here who actually use a BCM4318 chipset report trouble with it and b43. At the moment, the only alternative to b43 for the BCM4318 is ndiswrapper.

I suppose that I will have to use NDISwrapper then, b43 can't hold a stable connection. Does it matter if I use the windows XP or 7 drivers for it?

Re: Does this also works with the 4318 ?

I used ndiswrapper for a long time before I had Linux drivers for my wireless adapters. It worked fine for my BCM4306 cards. At first, I compiled it from source. It's a tiny program that compiles in a minute. It has to be recompiled when the kernel is updated. Later, I used the binary version from RPM Fusion. It updates when the kernel updates (usually). Anyway, it all worked okay.

I recommend using a driver known to make your card work in XP or W2K (or even W98). But drivers for Vista and later are well-known not to do so well with ndiswrapper. Use 64-bit Windows drivers for 64-bit Fedora.

Re: Does this also works with the 4318 ?

Thanks for the advice, right now I have my wireless card in another computer in order to provide internet through LAN to my fedora machine. I'll install it in a couple of hours and report back with the outcome.

It doesn't work, probably due to a difference between the 2 file names. In any case, I'll just use the method above until I most-likely move to a new place in a few weeks.
