I think this should be altered to ..

Quote:
mkdir -p /mnt/temp/boot
mount /dev/sda5 /mnt/temp/boot
mount /dev/sda6 /mnt/temp
grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/temp /dev/sda
to
Quote:
mkdir -p /mnt/temp/boot
mount /dev/sda6 /mnt/temp
mount /dev/sda5 /mnt/temp/boot

grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/temp /dev/sda

And

Quote:
mkdir -p /mnt/temp/boot
vgchange -a y
vgscan
lvdisplay
mount /dev/sda5 /mnt/temp/boot
mount /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 /mnt/temp
grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/temp /dev/sda
to

Quote:
mkdir -p /mnt/temp/boot
vgchange -a y
vgscan
lvdisplay
mount /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 /mnt/temp
mount /dev/sda5 /mnt/temp/boot

grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/temp /dev/sda

Hello megerdin,

That right there makes me think it did not work for you as originally published. If so, I regret that. But here's the thing. I never publish involved stepwise stuff like that without thoroughly testing it myself. And I did that here. It all worked. Your suggestion reverses the order in which the logical volume and the boot partition are mounted. I'm not going to do any more testing of this, but in my imagination I can't see how that makes any difference. But do whatever works.
