Running FC 15 on Dell XPS 15 L502

Hi,
I have a Dell XPS 15 L502 with the following configuration:

Intel Core i7 2630
4GB Ram
1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 525M graphics with Optimus
Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1030 with Bluetooth v3.0+HS
15.6" (39.6cm) HD (1366x768) WLED display with TrueLife
500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
Tray Load 8X DVD+/-RW Drive with DVD+R double layer write capability

I would use it as a dual boot (Win 7 and Linux) and have partitioned 100GB for Linux usage.

Now I know optimus won't work with FC 15, but my linux usage would be mostly for non-graphics work (coding etc). My question is:

1. Are there any other potential problems that I might face or is the installation straight forward? Specifically like using USB ports etc?

2. Do I have to do anything extra to let it use IGP? Anything that I need to factor in regarding display (does it support 1366 * 768 without any kind of artifacts)?

3. WLAN connection - does it work straight out of box?

If there is hybrid graphics (with both Intel graphics and nVidia graphics) that could cause problems/complexity. You could read up on the application 'bumblebee' which is used in GNU/Linux as a work around to hybrid intel/nvidia graphics issues.

Just burn a LiveCD and give a try. Testing Fedora for compability does not require installation.

I'm running Fedora 15 on a Dell L502 with I5. Works fine out of the box, WiFi, USB (i did not test 3.0), High resolution (1920x1080. i have the other display). Didn't try to use the NVidia card (see the earlier reply),all the graphics i need are working fine (including watching HD videos). A bit of a problem is the battery drainage (cause the Nvidiacard can't be swithed off), but with normal use and a little tweaking i can get get 2 hours.

Although i switched back to XFCE, Gnome 3 (shell) is running fine. no fall back mode.

Running W7 in Virtual box or VMware player, running with hardware accelaration gives strange problems, but when not using HW accelaration W7 (without aero) works without any problems (USB, integrated webcam) except some times the fan gets really working hard and laptop is getiing a bit hot + fast battery drainage.

Hi TiPo,
Thanks a lot for the confirmation. My usage is pretty much same as yours and I do not care much about the battery life degradation on linux - am ok with that.
