MiniFreezes and slow waking up

Just switched over from Ubuntu.
When im using the laptop it freezes up for a few seconds, the mouse still moves, but firefox and vi dont scroll among other things. When the computer goes to sleep, or the screensaver comes up because its idle, the the screen will show an image of what was going on at the time, the mouse can move, but nothing happens. Eventually it goes to the screen saver login.
