How to Forward email from Linux to a SMTP host

I am new to Linux, I have nagios running fine on Linux. I would like my nagios system to forward all the emails to our internal SMTP gateway. How can I configure this? Is it necessary to run sendmail on linux to achieve this?

For something like that, probably not. I think you can get by using ssmtp. Note, however, that it's pretty much abandoned by its maintainers, and probably has security issues--still, for something like this, it might be the answer. I have an old page on it

http://www.scottro.net/qnd/qnd-ssmtp.html

(Note that's a slow site, and not always available, though it's available as I type this.)

Howdy,

You can try nullmailer. It is about as simple as it gets. Google it.

Can I confgiure linux to send mail using DNS lookup without any mailing client?
For any external mails, it shoud perform a MX lookup on DNS servers and send emails. Is it possible?

You should be able to put something like:

Quote:
set smtp=smtphost.yourdomain.com
into the nagios user's .mailrc file which should tell mail to use your smtp gateway.
