Re: Fedora 15 ath5k problem
it's not that, no, with that bug the connection is possible but you get slow transfer rates, and it is specific to ath9k, not ath5k. this looks like something different.

Re: Fedora 15 ath5k problem
I'm not on Fedora, but I use a self compiled Kernel. I noticed that since Kernel version 2.6.38 my wireless stopped working. My card is a Atheros AR2413 which uses the ath5k module.
In 2.6.37 wireless works flawless. As soon as I boot 2.6.38 or 2.6.39, device is activated, drivers are loaded, rfkill is unblocked, but iwlist scan finds no access points. Also iw dev wlan0 scan produces no output.
A common hint is to add parameter nohwcrypt=1 to ath5k, but that doesn't help here.

Re: Fedora 15 ath5k problem
ok, thx for replies
crudeOIL : I read some news about serious unstable atheros driver with 2.6.38 kernel, so I think I have to wait a kernel update.
I dont want to use the madwifi driver because it dont work very well.
The ath9k driver dont work with my card and I don't need custom kernel because all the modules I need are here.
rfkill was unblocked to.

Re: Fedora 15 ath5k problem
After some investigation, I don't think ath5k is causing the problems.
I have the same wireless chip in two computers: one in an acer laptop and one in a desktop pc. As I took a testdrive of 2.6.39 on the desktop, the wireless was working. So at the moment I'd blame the acer-wmi module.
@tuckx: What in what PC is your wireless built in?

Re: Fedora 15 ath5k problem
i too have issues with atheros wireless card.. i'we a 2yrs old laptop, ath9k is the kernel moduel.. i've esperienced some speed relate issues,as described in the bug report here
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Common...9k_performance
but i can't ste up a system using temporary bugfix provided because of a different problem.. once switched off the wifi, either from software (network manager) or hardware via the notebook button, it never come up. i've tested two different installations, one from live one from dvd, distro full updated, and the problem is the same. now i'm back to f14, tath has no problem, and i expect solutions to come over.. f14 is rock solid now, and i consider stayng there, testing kde4, that is the same as is in f15, but without problems.

Re: Fedora 15 ath5k problem
For ath5k, I suspect this could be the issue:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34992
please make a separate thread for ath9k issues, these are separate modules and issues in the two are not likely to be related.

Re: Fedora 15 ath5k problem
@AdamW: The bug report covers my issue, thx.
Meanwhile I switched from ath5k to madwifi and wireless connection seems stable so far. As soon as the patch is integrated into vanilla I'll try ath5k again.

Re: Fedora 15 ath5k problem
Hi everybody,
Good news you don't need anymore to use madwifi driver or the pach compat-wireless to have a atheros wifi card working.
How it could be possible you may ask !
Nothing is more simple just do an update to the latest kernel : 2.6.38.8-32.fc15
thx to kernel team.

This update can be installed with the "yum" update program. Use
su -c 'yum update kernel' at the command line.
