Smile Kubrick Game

Has anyone noticed that while playing this game on laptop CPU temperature shoots up to 70 (in degree centigrade). I manually increase the fan speed to 6000 to bring down the temperature to 68.

I understand that it's a 3d game...but still is it supposed to be that much cpu intensive??

For verification use "sensors" command.....you should have sensors package installed...

yum install collectd-sensors

Re: Kubrick Game

How often do you clean the dust out of your laptop?

3D games will increase the temp of your laptop, and if that is combined with some dust buildup, it could be catastrophic for your machine.

Those little dust bunnies love to clog up the inner workings on a laptop (which have heat problems to start with)

Re: Kubrick Game

Maybe you are right.

I almost never opened the laptop. Don't know how to open a macbook pro. Used to do it easily with old Compaq.

Re: Kubrick Game

If you can't open the case without damaging it, if you have some compressed air, you can try just blowing it out through one of the openings (I would go for the opening where the fans blow the air out of the case so that you are blowing it out in the opposite direction of the normal air flow)

This might help it a little if you can't get the case open.

6,000 rpm?! That's really high! My Thinkpad fan maxes out at around 3,500 rpm.

Be very careful not to run the fan at a higher speed than it is designed to, for you might break it. And replacing a laptop fan is a bit of a pain. Cleaning the internals with compressed air might help. Also, make sure there is sufficient air-flow around the laptop. You could try using one of those laptop coolers.
