Sabayon crashing

Hi

I am trying to use sabayon to set up some restricted GNOME desktops on Fedora 14. I have used this before on F13 no problem. Just crashes on F14. Any idea on what is causing this?

NOTE: this is the sabayon tool which is a profile editor, not the Sabayon Linux distro.

Regards
Daniel

I'm running into what looks to be the same issue.
Did you manage to resolve it?

Re: Sabayon crashing

Hi

Yes I did fix it. I had to change some code in the protosession.py file which is part of the sabayon package. It was a one liner. From memory it is due to some data that is put into a structure that does not fit in said structure.

I have this at work so if you still need it let me know and I will post. Also needed to install the gnome legacy icon package to get it to work.

Regards
Daniel

Re: Sabayon crashing

Bart,

Would love to see the changes you made to protosession.py. I'm having this exact same problem on two out of three systems (not sure why it works on the other, they're all running the same version of Sabayon).

Would greatly appreciate your help!

Brian

Re: Sabayon crashing

Hi

To get Sabayon running I had to change 276 of the protosession.py file to this:

pack_format = ">lh%dsh%dsh%dsh%d" % (display_addr_len, display_num_len, xauth_name_len, xauth_data_len)

I also needed to install the gnome-legacy-icon package.

Hope this helps.

Regards
Daniel

Re: Sabayon crashing

Thanks! I tried this and still getting a crash/error, though slightly different. Need to do some debugging.

Also couldn't find the "gnome-legacy-icon" package listed anywhere, though I'm running on a different Linux distrib than Fedora.

Interesting thing though is that I then went to a slightly newer version of the other Linux distrib which was mostly a fresh install and was having exactly the same crash as the other, performed the mod you suggested, and this time Sabayon allowed me to edit things!

So I'll have to look into why the two are behaving differently, but definitely looks like your patch did fix at least one bug in Sabayon!

One difference is that the older (production) system is running under ProxMox as a KVM VM (one that doesn't work for Sabayon). The newer one is running under VMWare Workstation (under Windows 7) - this one works after applying your path, but did not prior.

Since this is starting another Xsesion, perhaps there are display issues with starting a 2nd X session under ProxMox (and on top of that, I'm accessing the console remotely with VNC).

When I get a chance to physically get in front of the real console, I'll see if that makes any difference.

Might be time to upgrade the production VM, something that was on the list, but not so soon. :-)

Re: Sabayon crashing

I have raised this bug for this:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=710671

---------- Post added at 05:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:43 PM ----------

On fedora it needs the gnome-icon-theme-legacy.noarch package. So with Sabayon the package dependences are broken as it should install this automatically.
