Syncing a Sony CLIE with Ximian

This is more like a combination of a software and hardware issue, but I posted it here instead.

I have Fedora Core 1 with Ximian Evolution 1.4 and gnome-pilot. I want to sync my Sony CLIE PEG-TH55 handheld (Palm OS) with Ximian, but for some reason, I can't set it up. None of the USB ports in the gnome-pilot configuration will respond to a handheld-initiated HotSync.

Has anyone else had experience with this and has been able to get a sync going? It would be nice to sync with Linux, as I'm switching over to it completely from Windows XP.

Thanks in advance. Have a great holiday!

Ok, I use the following instructions for my Clie SJ20 but they should work for you.
  1. Open a Terminal app
  2. Give a "su" command and enter the root password
  3. Run "tail -f /var/log/messages", while this is running initiate a HotSync from your Clie
  4. You should see a port assigned in the Terminal, usually /dev/ttyUSB0
  5. Hit CTL+C to kill the logging app in the terminal and give the command "chmod 0666 /dev/ttyUSB0"
  6. Open up another terminal and give the command "export PILOTPORT=/dev/ttyUSB0"
  7. You can now try a test sync by giving the command "pilot-xfer -l" and hitting the HotSync button on your Clie, if this Sync work you should be able to configure the gpilot widget with most of the default settings; if the sync failed go back and check the port the Clie was assigned to in step three and repeat through replacing the port.

In step 4, I wasn't assigned a port. The only thing relating to it was something like "USB disconnected, assigned 2" and I though "assigned 2" might mean "/dev/ttyUSB2" but it didn't work.

Thanks for your help anyway!
