since it is a construction set and you can choose what to do, then see about choosing to put a taskbar in gnome shell. or see about choosing to drop a file on your desktop in gnome shell.

I don't think that is a choice.

But, I know what you are saying. and right now, I choose to check out systemd and at least give it a try before dumping the entire piece of #$% in the trash can.
