Angry wireless problems since updates

Has anyone else been having problems with their wireless network connections since the network manager updates?

I have two different networks that I connect to and have in the past had no problems since figuring out what files were missing and had to be either created or corrected and copied into the correct locations.

Once again the devs have taken something that works and turned it into a nightmare for the users. I have tried everything I know to get my secondary wireless connection working to no avail(currently connected through my neighbors unprotected network), from deleting the connection, rebooting and recreating it, editing the files and copying them back into the correct locations and nothing works.

I have even had many crashes while using network manager. Using system-network-config eliminated the crashes but still does not allow the connection to connect. It attempts to connect and just hangs on waiting for authentication after prompting for the WEP key and clicking OK.

Anyone have any idea what in the heck is going on since the devs created all these updates and have once again broken the most important aspect of any usable system, the network?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Oh and I'm running F14 and KDE 4.6.1

Hi

I don't know what update you're talking about, but this system is fully updated and network manager is working fine right now. Perhaps your system had a program crash and some file got corrupted.

Nope, no system crashing during the updates. But after the updates I lost my second wireless network connection. The primary wireless connection works perfectly fine but it is over a hundred miles away from this location. So I know it's NOT a wireless or network problem. The crash that I'm talking about is a plasma crash not a system crash.

I problems for the get go with f14 and wireless which I fixed because the files were not saved by the system to the correct locations and I opened a bug report about it and gave them the fix to the problems I was seeing originally. Everything worked fine until the latest grouping of updates to network manager. My primary connection works fine but the connection for the other network fails(the location where I'm at now) every time waiting for authentication never pops up a dialogue or anything but is waiting for an authentication to happen like it has a window waiting but it's invisible.

I think the update broke your way of fixing the problem and now you can't connect to the network. I guess the network manager installed in the system has any corrupted file containing any sort of information regarding that connection. Why don't you try to reinstall it? Mostly when these software bugs happen are because of corrupted files.

Still no go. reinstalling does not fix it. Un-installing and reinstalling does not fix it either. If I hook it up through a wired connection it works fine, but that is not the end goal of having the wireless connection working once again.

Guess I'll have to open another bug report about it.

Re: wireless problems since updates

I think my laptop has a related problem now. Whenever my laptop goes to suspend and is woken up after that, it is unable to establish the WiFi connection no matter what. It keeps on asking for the WAP key over and over again. A reboot solves the prob every time.

This bug appeared a couple of days ago.

If no one can help with your suspend problem I would suggest opening a bug report on it as I have done for my problem.

I'm back at my main network location and it is working fine. It just will not connect when I'm at my secondary network location. One of the updates to network manager has broken network manager once again.

I'm hoping that they can figure out what they broke and fix it soon, otherwise I'm going to have to go back to XP. At least it works in every location that I travel to. I can NOT continue to steal a network connection from my neighbor when I pay for one myself that has a greater speed not to mention the legal ramification of using someone else's internet connection!

Re: wireless problems since updates

Hey, Im also having problems with network manager.. I've been searching all over the web to try to find out whats wrong with no good results, in fact this is my first time asking in forums..

I cant connect to any network with any kind of wireless security, I had to open my network to be able to connect, and also this happened after an update, every time I get a network manager update I try to see if it got fixed but nothing yet.

I tried reinstalling the network manager and nothing, if anyone have a good idea how to solve this problem will be appreciated!!

Re: wireless problems since updates

I'd just like to add to this as I have two Fedora laptops (one is my wife's - not happy!) with crippled wifi since some recent updates were allowed. I wish I could be more specific in regards to which update, but a few happened at once...

I have to try it on an unsecured network, but it looks like that may be an interim solution.
