F13 PAE kernel update missing kmod?

Yesterday I ran updates that moved me from kernel Fedora (2.6.34.7-61.fc13.i686.PAE) to Fedora (2.6.34.7-63.fc13.i686.PAE). After reboot my system hangs trying to start X. I can use altF2 and log in that way but when I try to start X it fails - no screen found.

I backed off to my previous kernel and used the package manager to remove the updated kernel and noticed that when it uninstalled it did not take any kmod packages with it. I assume not having an associated kmod may have been the problem? If so, how do I find the correct one to install?

Do you have the akmod-nvidia package installed? That package will autobuild a kmod for your new kernel. See here for more information.

Happens quite often. New kernel but no kmods to go along with it. Sort of like fries with no ketchup.

Please try install "Metapackage which tracks in nvidia kernel module for newest kernel". This is a meta-package without payload which sole purpose is to require the nvidia kernel module(s) for the newest kernel to make sure you get it together with a new kernel.

Typically the nvidia module will be delayed by a day or two.

For this reason, I use the nouveau driver as much as possible.

kmod does not help if the module does not exist yet. akmod , now you are talking -)

Be warned akmod occasionally fails as well (or it has in the past).

In that event (akmod failure) build the nvidia driver yourself, wait a few hours/days, or use nouveau

Thank you all, I will check into akmod while I wait for the correct kmod to land and go with whichever I figure out or find first.
