Fedora 13 and rfkill

I'm sure this has been covered by many, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I have the Broadcom 4311 chipset [ BCM4311 ] on a HP DV2000 2615nr laptop. I've had issues with not being able to enable WIFI. There's a WIFI killswitch on my laptop. It's not a button, it's a switch. The switch has a blue light when activated and orange when deactivated. I could not activate the switch (make it blue).

My fix:

yum install rfkill
rfkill list (to check devices)
rfkill unblock wifi

joila

Hope this helps someone

In my opinion, you need go to BIOS to make some change.(eg: Enable Wifi)

Re: Fedora 13 and rfkill

I tired that, but there is no Enable Wifi Button, i think im going to have to make a scrpit to run the rfkill unblock wifi every time the computer starts up because the laptop goes back to how it was in the beginning. Do you think there is any other way rather then writing a script to start up everytime?

Thank You,
redlinuxpro

You need to install a driver for that adapter. Have you done that yet? If not, kurtdriver published detailed steps of how he got an adapter with that chipset going...

If you have problems with the driver, then I recommend that you start a new thread with an appropriate title.

Re: Fedora 13 and rfkill

Hi Mohdrizal,

so what is the problem. your problem sounds to general. Can you give us more detail? like does the light for the wireless adapter turn on? do you not see an enable button for the wlan? did it work before, what os did you use? is this the first time this happened? could you provide us with more details?

Happy Linux,

Re: Fedora 13 and rfkill

Having trouble with getting my wireless to work. If you want the details they are here
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=254698

It was suggested that I look at this thread.
Can't get rfkill to work.

Installed rfkill using add/remove software and when I try it I get the following error. Did it as SU.

rfkill list
Can't open RFKILL control device: No such file or directory

Help works, but anything else I type in gets me the above error
rfkill --help
Usage: rfkill [options] command
Options:
--version show version (0.4)
Commands:
help
event
list [IDENTIFIER]
block IDENTIFIER
unblock IDENTIFIER
where IDENTIFIER is the index no. of an rfkill switch or one of:
<idx> all wifi wlan bluetooth uwb ultrawideband wimax wwan gps fm
