linux and CUPS [ABANDONED]

I have been using this page to install the drivers for the Canon IP2200 printer. I had no problem installing it, but not it's just a question of dealing with CUPS. As instructed in that page, I restart the cups server, then go to that page to Adminstration --> Add Printer, and am prompted to enter the root login and password. That crashes CUPS (I think). The page just won't reload. I can't seem to get past this!

thanks,
-Sal.
