F13 to F14 Beta On-line Upgrade.

I went the on-line Yum "preupdate" route.

The upgrade was painfully slow on a P4 (Northwood) 2GHz 32bit 2Mb system and took over 3 hours using
Comcast's High Speed Internet cable access.

After rebooting into F14, I saw that 161 updates were waiting and they took an additional hour.

Still, all seems to have gone OK. Crossing my fingers...

BTW, the default F14 boot-up splash screen looks like an Ubuntu delinquent threw a rock through my monitor's screen.

I did the upgrade from Fedora 13 to 14 Beta on both my desktop and Laptop with what I would call a success. I used Yum method with distribution-synchronization method leigh123linux mentions in the sticky http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=250331 .

Prior to the upgrade, I followed the steps 1-3 on the traditional Yum upgrade FAQ. Specifically step 3 where I cleaned up config files, unused and lost packages. I also had to remove the kdeutils-printer-applet package on both machines as they broke the upgrade. I could not force RPM to install the rpmfusion 14 packages for some reason so I uninstalled those repositories and reinstalled them after the upgrade. The upgrade worked fine on both of my machines though I did have to add --skip-broken and --nogpgcheck. (I am sure there is a way to have imported the GPG key, I just didn't take the time to look it up).

yum --releasever=14 --disablerepo=updates distribution-synchronization --nogpgcheck --skip-broken

After the upgrade, I reinstalled RPM fusion and did another yum update to get the latest packages. This took just as long as the upgrade. I use KDE with RPMFusion's Nvidia driver. I found I had to delete my ~/.kde folder as KDE was freezing up (I don't remember the post I saw this recommendation in, but it worked for me). I had to boot to my previous Kernel as well as I will wait until a new Nvidia driver is released.

So far, Fedora 14 looks great and is running well for me on both machines. I scour these forums all the time for help - so thank you everyone. For an upgrade to a beta, I'd say this wasn't bad at all.

Kernel and nvidia drivers from F13 works on your F14 instance now? No problems have occurred with new X.org server?

My previous kernel was on Fedora 13. X will not start for me on the latest kernel as the Nvidia driver would not load and RPM fusion did not have an updated driver last I checked. I don't mind waiting for an update rather than using one of the other methods of acquiring the driver. Other than a minor KDE issue, so far so good.

My current Kernel is: 2.6.34.7-56.fc13.x86_64
And it is using: kmod-nvidia-2.6.34.7-56.fc13.x86_64-256.53-1.fc13.4.x86_64

Thanks for your info - so I'll try to install latest F13 kernel and nvidia drivers back. I removed them during experiments with wifi driver on F14 :-(
