    Hi
Trying to install Cadsoft eagle pcb design app

    and getting :-
error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.0.9.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

    [root@localhost Downloads]# yum provides */libssl
    Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
    No Matches found
    I also tried
    [root@localhost Downloads]# yum provides */libssl.so.0.9.8
    Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
    No Matches found

I found this on the Cadsoft forum:-

I am running F13 also, and had the same problem.

I copied these files from acroread (/opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/lib)
to my /usr/lib directory. I'm sure you can find them elsewhere, but I already
had acroread, so that was convenient for me.

You will actually need to add two files to /usr/lib:

    libssl.so.0.9.8
    libcrypto.so.0.9.8

    Steve,

Thanks for the great suggestion - that worked for me as well.

We will link in the necessary libraries statically in the next version.

    Here's the question
Is there any way I can link the libs without resorting to loading Adobe Reader ?
version 11 of Cadsoft Eagle is not out yet.

Its an app I use and need.

    TIA
    Richard

You mean without installing Acrobat Reader?

I don't see why you cannot grab the libs somewhere and dump them in the correct location (preferably the cadsoft eagle folder, or /usr/lib/). You may end up downloading and unpacking the libs from some old RPMs - grab from Koji.

    Re: cadsoft eagle

    Thanks Hlinger,
I was trying to avoid a dependency on one package to another.
I have eagle installed now, by installing Acrobat reader and putting sym links in, I'd much rather link to existing libs which wont get cleaned or orphaned on an update.
Thanks for the info on Koji.

Anyway now I have Eagle installed I have the problem of printing. up to about 18 months ago in the print menu I could choose the print resolution. What I use is 2880 x 2880.

Now its been changed to, manual control, text, graphics, mixed text and graphics, photo and line art.

This is exactly the same as the printer properties, and none of the options are at very high resolution which I need for printing on transparencies. This is not a Fedora problem , its all distros.

I think its a gutenprint change, but had no luck there either.
The printer is an Epson R285 ( photo-stylus)

Again a bad thread title. Should be "Need libssl-0.9.8" Maybe read the forum guidelines.
    http://www.fedoraforum.org/?view=guide

You want libssl-0.9.8, but that's an older package. fedeora has open ssl version 1.x now. If ou install from an older RPM (like the F11 rpm file). You can force install it, but it mess up the existing package (other binaries, manual pages, etc).

Try compiling from souce and installing under /usr/locall or similar.

sudo yum -y group install "Development Tools" "Development Libraries"
    wget http://www.openssl.org/source/openssl-0.9.8o.tar.gz -O - | tar -xzv
    cd openssl*
    ./config shared -fPIC --openssldir=/usr/local
    make
    sudo make install

Then add /usr/local/lib to the ld.conf list with ....
    sudo bash
    echo "/usr/local/lib" > /etc//etc/ld.so.conf.d/old-ossl.conf
    exit

Use "ldd" in the binary to verify that the dynamic link is good.

    Smile Re: cadsoft eagle

    Hi g8jvm,
    I find there's a simple solution.

U just need to do these:

    Code:
    cd /usr/lib
    sudo ln -s libssl.so.1.0.0a libssl.so.0.9.8
    sudo ln -s libcrypto.so.1.0.0a libcrypto.so.0.9.8
    That's all. Hope it's helpful.

    Re: cadsoft eagle

For a 64-bit install, do the same in /usr/lib64.
