Fedora 12 Booting Issues

Hello,

I have installed Fedora 12 in Virtual Box few days back, didn't had any issues so far.
Today when I click start button to launch Fedora from Virtual Box, after the progress bar, GUI was not booting. I re-started again and chose verify and boot, GUI started, however I couldn't find the user which I was logging in previously.

Again I started fresh and this GUI started, but could not find the user I was logging in. It says user doesn't exist.

How could I resolve this issue? Do I need to do a fresh installation?
Are there any way I could get back to my original state?

Any help is highly appreciable.

Hello and Welcome to FedoraForum.org ,

It sound like you are booting a live cd and not from a install. If you have already installed Fedora then you just need to change the boot device for that Vbox from cd to hard drive img.

I changed the primary master to Fedora.vdi and cd/dvd is empty.
I have attached screen shot of my Virtual Box settings.

After the progress bar it shows a empty screen.

Yesterday evening I had updated power management driver on my host, which is a Win XP SP3.

Does updating a driver causes any issues?

I did fresh fedora 12 installation two days back.

Today morning when I tried to start fedora, I am having the same issue.
After progress bar, it goes to a blank screen. I didn't do any driver updates.

Please someone help!

@ponic: try to hit F1 during Fedora boot to turn off graphical boot. If that helps do a 'yum upgrade' afterwords.

I did a yum update,still the same.

Any idea why GUI is not loading?

Hello,
If you are able to get to a command prompt, I would take a look at /var/log/messages ect. and see if you can see what the problem is. To display log files from a prompt, as root, just use a command like :

cat /var/log/messages | more

Thanks for the reply.

While I was checking the logs, I found the following:
- Warining: GdmDisplay: display lasted 0.192705 seconds.
- WARNING: GdmLocalDisplayFactory: Maximum number of X display failures reached: check X server log for details.
- prefdm main process (1405) terminated with status 1.

In addition I found the following, not sure what does these mean?
- weird , boot cpu not listed in BIOS.
- SMP Motherboard not detected.
- APIC calibration not consistent with PM-Timer:120ms instead of 100ms.

Please someone could kindly suggest how could the resolve this issue.
