So right now mplayer works best. Rhythmbox has a lot of popping when ALSA is selected in the sound preference. Also see that Pulseaudio is sucking up 7% of my CPU when using Rhythmbox, which seems pretty high. I don't have Amarok installed, and I don't really like it, but I know it's closer to Foobar2000 in that you can select an output device -- might try it later. Also have to try some surround files.

Thanks again for the help!

Clarification on "Working Stereo"

@mndar,
When you said "Sound was working fine with stereo on your usb Creative Surround 5.1",was sound coming out of all 5 speakers(in a stereo manner) or only from the front left and right speakers? Am planning to buy this sound card and would like to know if i can get a pseudo 5.1 experience.Else i'll settle with my intel inbuilt sound card.

Expecting a reply!

Sorry paulvictor. Never saw your post until today. I know this is too late but anyway..
I've only used it with a 2 Channel setup.

BTW, something I did not know before buying this card is that all the X-Fi stuff is done by the Windows driver/software. There is nothing in hardware for the X-Fi, CMSS 3D and all that stuff.
I would have been better off with one of those USB DACs like the NuForce Icon uDAC
