CAD/3D Design software

Anyone know of a good CAD and/or 3D design program running preferably native on linux, or if it not, one that runs perfectly under wine?

I don't use any and I'm sure you posted this question because you want someone with experience using such software but google told me these were good

Google told me that as well But like you said, someone with experience should really answer this. Hopefully there's one or two around here somewhere

Hmm, i'm not sure what you're going to use it for, but since the linked page mentions about OpenCascade i'd like to add that i've used the salome-platform http://www.salome-platform.org/ based on opencascade technology for my 3D modeling for CFD purposes and i found it to be really good. Based on that i'd also like to recommend you to check out the FreeCAD mentioned in the link if it is suitable for you. Note that i haven't used FreeCAD and neither any of the proprietary CAD programs, so my knowledge id fairly limited.

- LibreCAD (2D, free)

Under Wine:
- Moment Of Inspiration (3D, $295)
- AutoCAD (2D, don't know price)

For 3D medical visualization there is one that doesn't need to be installed just downloaded and is good to go.

http://www.slicer.org/

Great to create 3D models from MRI and CT-Scans.
It is working on Fedora 18, 2013.

Nice add. The CAD developers are slowly (very, very slowly) waking up to the fact that there are other OS's out there.

Re: CAD/3D Design software

The Dassault Draftsight looks like an only 2D drawing program. If you are looking for a full feature 3D CAD program look for Siemens Unigraphics NX, which is available for Linux for some years now, but it's not only a full feature but moreover full price commercial program used worldwide in all industries.

There's also BRL-CAD, which has RPMs for Fedora: http://sourceforge.net/projects/brlc...0Linux/7.22.0/

Played around with this, not really worth the effort imo. For the price something like VariCAD is still best. While its nowhere near SolidEdge or NX it'll do the job.
