    I am unable to replicate the issue here on my F12 x86_64 install, however the "desktop wall" plugin is clearly at fault here.
    The build log shows nothing either.

    http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/g...name=build.log

    Try reinstalling the main compiz package to see if it helps

    Code:
    su
    yum reinstall compiz
    If not try disabling the "desktop wall" plugin in ccsm

    tried to reinstall compiz, no help. Thus i disable the plugins 'desktop wall', reboot my laptop and now Compiz-fusion WORK - Successful.

    The sad part is i have no way to go to 'workspace 2' to 'workspace 4' like i can. so my work around is:-

    1. use 3D cube + rotate. This allow me to move around workspaces
    2. use 'Expose' - same as above
    3. Shift switch - allow me to toggle between open/minised apps, just like 'alt+tab' key, now instead i uses 'Super+Tab' key.

    Thanks alot for the help. Hope the plugin Desktop Wall fixed. CHeers!

    OK, I have found the problem and will release a fix soon, the wall plugin will be moved back to the compiz-fusion package where it belongs ( what possessed drago01 to move it to the compiz package )

    The weird thing is the local build worked here OK , so I have uploaded it to the mirror.

    Does it fix it for you ( temp fix )?

    (moving here from the nvidia thread since this seems like the place to ask this - although not on f9-10-11 and my compiz version seems to be 0.8.2 not 0.8.5)

    FC12 64-BIT GNOME NVIDIA-RPMFUSION

    would like to get compiz running properly on my machine

    currently selecting compiz via the system preferences desktop-effects GUI locks up my system for 10-15 seconds then returns to the standard setting
    Code:
    $ uname -r
    2.6.31.6-162.fc12.x86_64
    $ rpm -qa |grep nvidia
    xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-190.42-5.fc12.x86_64
    nvidia-xconfig-1.0-1.fc12.x86_64
    kmod-nvidia-2.6.31.6-162.fc12.x86_64-190.42-1.fc12.4.x86_64
    xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs-190.42-5.fc12.x86_64
    nvidia-settings-1.0-3.2.fc12.x86_64
    kmod-nvidia-2.6.31.6-145.fc12.x86_64-190.42-1.fc12.6.x86_64
    akmod-nvidia-190.42-1.fc12.4.x86_64
    $ rpm -qa |grep compiz
    compiz-0.8.2-19.fc12.x86_64
    compiz-gnome-0.8.2-19.fc12.x86_64
    $ glxinfo |grep render
    direct rendering: Yes
    OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 9600 GT/PCI/SSE2
    $ compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints gconf
    compiz (video) - Warn: No 8 bit GLX pixmap format, disabling YV12 image format
    (this seems to bring up compiz, it also seems to not entirely go away when I close the terminal which kills the process)
    Code:
    $ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    # Xorg configuration created by livna-config-display

    Section "Files"
    	ModulePath   "/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia"
    	ModulePath   "/usr/lib64/xorg/modules"
    EndSection

    Section "ServerFlags"
    	Option	    "AIGLX" "on"
    EndSection

    Section "Device"
    	Identifier  "Videocard0"
    	Driver      "nvidia"
    	Option	    "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
    EndSection

    Section "Extensions"
    	Option	    "Composite" "Enable"
    EndSection
    can I simply install compiz-fusion from whatever fedora and rpmfusion repos or is it a little more complicated than that?

    note I am on fc12 and already have the basic compiz package (with a gnome gui) installed on my system so I am not sure where in this thread it actually explains how to do that, but will look some more.

    thanks.

    okay, did the install for gnome only as spec'd in post #2. got it with about 3 dependencies. went to the menu and clicked the compiz fusion icon. seems compiz is now running.

    desktop-effects still shows standard, but I am learning there are times on fedora when different packages do not always share data back and forth when managing the same thing, so maybe this is one of those times.

    is CompizConfig Settings Manager the menu item to use instead then?

    also, is this now non-volatile on my system (wait, I'll know in a minute...)

    here is...
    $ ./compiz-check
    Code:
    Gathering information about your system...

     Distribution:          Fedora release 12 (Constantine)
     Desktop environment:   GNOME
     Graphics chip: nVidia Corporation G94 [GeForce 9600 GT] (rev a1)
     Driver in use:         nvidia
     Rendering method:      Nvidia

    Checking if it's possible to run Compiz on your system...

     Checking for texture_from_pixmap...               [ OK ]
     Checking for non power of two support... [ OK ]
     Checking for composite extension... [ OK ]
     Checking for FBConfig... [ OK ]
     Checking for hardware/setup problems...           [ OK ]

    indeed it is volatile...

    click the icon, get compiz, restart the machine no compiz anymore, repeat

    can live with that, but is there a way to make compiz always come up on log-in or something like that? (I'm sure this is something obvious I am missing and a rtfm would be understood here)

    Once you follow #2 get compiz fusion ruing, you have to use the CCSM adjust what ever config compatibilty and effect etc. For example i want to have Gnome compatibilty so in CCSM i enable "Gnome Compatibility" .

    To have the system boot up and login Gnome with compiz always on, you have to place the compiz in the "System --> Preferences --> Startup Applications" the command is "fusion-icon"
