New Kernel won't work and graphics issues - possibly related

Hi all,

I just updated to F12 from F10 (did a clean install though) after updating and getting a new kernel I'm having some problems. The two kernels that I've got are:

2.6.31.6-127.fc12.i686
2.6.31.6-145.fc12.i686

I'm typing this from the top one which still works but has massive graphics issues, I tried to install my graphics drivers (for Nvidia Geforce 7600GT) using:

Code:
su -
yum --enablerepo=rp*g install akmod-nvidia \
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64
But it seems not to have worked. glxgears gives me about 90 fps which is actually worse than before I tried to install the drivers!

When I try to boot using the other Kernel I get to the blue screen where the Fedora logo turns white (the one just before the log in screen) but I never actually get to the log in screen all I get after the Fedora logo screen is a black screen with a blinking "_" in white at the top left. I've tried leaving it for half an hour but it doesn't do anything. All I can do is restart the computer and boot using this kernel.

Any ideas what the problem is and how to fix it?

Many thanks in advance!

You are using out of date instructions for the nvidia installation. Have a look at the nvidia thread in my signature.

Code:
[Roscoe@roscoe ~]$ glxgears
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
31402 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6276.699 FPS
34126 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6824.253 FPS
31745 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6338.579 FPS
43209 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8641.651 FPS
Need I say more?

Thanks a lot! For future reference, I like to follow an post install guide to get things set up. Can you recommend one that's kept more up to date? I'll bookmark it and hopefully never have this problem again!
