keyboard shortcuts

in the name of god
i want to create a keyboared shortcut for creating new folder and so i use this command in gnome-kinbin :
mkdir myfolder
but it does not work but when i write:mkdir /home/user/myfolder it works correctly .
how i can say it to create the folder in the current directory of that is active in the current windows???
and also what is the command for creating a file as .txt or .pl or else??????
