i had a sneaky suspicion it may have been your partition layout but glad you got it fixed

Well, Linux Mint for one. An odd little distro, but I just booted the live cd and it has mplayer, which I tested on several files from the hard drive. It played mp4 wmv and flv files and all I had to do was mount the hard drive. My rant was about getting that stuff setup and the fact that it really is unecessary, as I proved a couple of minutes ago , booting from that cd. I don't know what microsoft does, I haven't used it in ten years. But in
Fedora, totem keeps popping up volunteering to play files and all it does is give me a display of flashing colors which I don't need. And it continually tells me codecs are needed but if I try to get them through it, I get a lecture telling me that I shouldn't look at flash, or dvds, because of their licences, which is insulting. As if the DVD drive is just for install media. Personally , the odd time I rip a CD I put it into .flac, but the rest of the world has has not fallen into step with the rest of us. Cheers, Kurt

Cool ! I was doing the same thing for my 64 bit machine ! I'll use your script for help ! I'll also post my finished project in fedora forum when I'm done.

May I ask something technical ? I see you're using yum in your scripts. And in mine I can't seem to be able to do that. How do you do ? Do I have to compile an rpm to do that ?

Sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean... The script is executed as root and, as such, it simply runs yum normally... Nothing wrong goes there...

If you could clarify, I'd be glad to help!

Cheers

Just thought I'd pop in and say that "easylife" is still relevant. For some reason the flash download from "autoten" results in no-sound flash videos in youtube, but easylife's still work. (YMMV, obv) Just like anything in linux, it's good to have choice.

Hi,

This script of yours will make adaption of Fedora easy for many new Linux users so thank you very much. One question though, does it install x64 alpha flash or regular x32 flash wth nspluginwrapper?

It install 64 (alhpa) or 32, according to your system's arch.

Thanks!
