Still, the quality of the sound is VERY poor (it worked perfect in FC10).
I played with alsamixer several days - the same issue all the time: or I hear a lot of noise when playing back recorded sound (even from external mic+phone set), or the sund is very very week. No acceptable combination of controls...:-(
How it all worked in FC10 without me touching a thing!?

Hey ho,
I use Gnome on a Del Ltitude D600 laptop. I had problems getting SKYPE to record.
First I stopped SKYPE from controlling sound settings which didn't do much.
I found I had to remove all PULSE AUDIO, then play around with the ALSA mixer using the GNOME Advanced sound control applet.
Selecting mic boost helped to get decent input.
Then I had to play with 3D conrol / PCM / Master volume levels.
I had problems with feedback during audio playback because the MIC doesn't mute automatically. Manually muting all audio input devices fixed that. I also have to be careful I don't place my hands to close to the speakers when recording or feedback may occur.
Now sound is good on everything (well as good as laptop speakers can be).
Cheers,
Bert
