Can you recommend a motherboard & cpu combo?

My beloved motherboard & cpu (athlon 3500+) met an untimely end, cooling fan on nvidea card seized & overheated, so now my bios beeps a fatal song. Does anyone have a recommendation on a motherboard & cpu combo from tigerdirect or newegg? I'm eye-balling another amd 64bit like the asus m4a785 but the ati hd4200 makes me nervous. Guess I'm looking for a pointer, a nudge, or thumbs up. Anyone?
