shortcut keys

OS: Fedora 11 32bit

I play some full screen games, and I'd like to be able to use my sound shortcut keys over the full screen games. I know this was possible in Ubuntu but that's a bugged out distro and much rather prefer since I'm used to RHEL. Anyways, I'd like to know if setting the sound shortcut keys to work over full screen applications is possible.
