I'm
desktop user and just moved from Debian to Fedora due to the purchase of a new motherboard/processor and video card. Debian could not find my raid. Anyway I'm really pleased with Fedora 11 and the initial setup went well but it got me to wondering if there was a better way to do what I need.
My raid is a 1TB mirror (raid1) which I have been storing 500+ GB of data in the /home directory. I'm wondering if I'd be better to use a single smaller drive to place the OS and setup the raid separately as a NAS. That way my data is not reliant on my OS always working or if I make a upgrade I don't have to deal with a massive amount of data.
I had previously tried something like this on Debian and found that after I booted the system the drives were not mounted and as a regular user I was not able to mount the drives. I had to login as root to mount but then had permission issues.
So my question folks is what is the best way to do this and can someone please explain how in way for a novice to understand.
Many thanks in advance,
Peter
