Have you ever played these exact files before?
I also had this message when I tried to play one avi when another plays no problem, both downloaded at roughly the same time. As I dual boot, I tried in windows media player, it again played a short video but this time said I needed a different codec so was being redirected to the codec page. Once at the page (not an official windows page) there was a small amount of text and a link to a free to download player. At that point I got scared so deleted the file from my computer.
The messages in both fedora and windows seemed strange, especially as they were embedded in the video and not the normal pop-up error/warning boxes. I really started to get suspicious however when I was able to compress the file with gzip from almost 700MB down to just over 5MB.
Personally, I think the avi has been bulked up with text after the initial video, hence the massive compression ratio. Unfortunately I don't think the file is as labelled so you not be able to play it.
P.S. I very rarely watch videos on my computer so I may have missed something obvious. If you find a solution, please post back so I don't instantly delete any other videos i have that do the same.
EDIT: For comparison I have just tried compressing the avi file that does play and it shrank from 781MB to 771MB. I'm pretty convinced that the file I had wasn't a 'full' avi.
