F11 on Inspiron 6000 - audio problem since update

In the last week or 2 I've noticed something odd with the audio - but as I don't use the it very much and also accept all the ongoing updates from Fedora I can't pin down when and what.

Anyway symptons are (using ALSA):

1. volume control button on the laptop - when decreasing to less than ~50% the sound goes to zero.

2. watching flash movies (in Firefox 3.5.1, Adobe 10 plug-in) (e.g. BBC, youtube): they play fine for a few seconds then go choppy (audio and video) then video recovers but sound is lost (and the laptop volume control does not work at all after that).

3. finding similar problems on replay of audio with kplayer and vlc on music files (ogg) that previously worked fine.

I've seen the pulseaudio and vlc fix thread but I don't use pulseaudio in kplayer, for example.

Just wondering if anyone has had similar problems...

Sound familiar. And it's not a laptop.

I had the exact same problem as you. I was able to fix it following this guide which it doesn't look it is for the same problem but it worked. http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=225660
I didn't uninstall pulseaudio nor i did the vlc section, but the rest helped.

^ no joy with that

after a minute or so the sound just breaks up - testing with an ogg known to be ok and sox (play). mplayer seems a bit better.

frustrating - allowed updates to happen, but now not sure what has changed

did you try the changes to /etc/pulse/default.pa and /etc/pulse/daemon.conf that the link I posted before talks about? because I think that is what made my audio to work properly again. Hopefully you solve your problem.
