I mention something on topic after the diversion...

Plus, the alternative non-open source operating system servers *can not* run a Quantum Stornext high-speed file system (over 900MB sustained write speed), one of the highest-speed file systems in the world. The alternative non-open source operating system company uses Linux with Quantum Stornext high-speed file system, because (again), the well-known non-open source OS can NOT run Quantum Stornext high-speed file system. For that matter, the non-open source software server editions can not run IBRIX high-speed file systems either, they can be a client, but the server edition of IBRIX high speed file system (a competitor to Quantum Stornext Fusion) only runs on Linux.
In a nutshell,
the well-known non-open source server OS can not run 1) IBRIX server or 2) Quantum Stornext high-speed file system SERVER (Quantum's could really do a better job on advertisement of their outstanding product). But either of these 2 products can only run in a server mode on Linux/UNIX platforms. The well-known non-open source server OS can NOT run it. It can only be a *client* system in such a high-speed file system architecture.
Pixar uses IBRIX and has had impressive results (google 'cars' and 'pixar' with 'ibrix') . Quantum also has an impressive list of customers who use their high-speed file system. The prominent non-open source OS can not run it on their OS in a server role, they use linux, yes, THEY use linux for this because (again) it won't work on their OS in a server role.
Yet another reason to use open source.

by the way - back to topic,
I tried what Steve suggested above,
Code:
yum --exclude=alsa-plugins-pulseaudio --exclude=dhclient --exclude=farsight2 --exclude=gdb --exclude=grubby --exclude=gstreamer-plugins-good --skip-broken update
and it trips on gnome-common
Code:
Downloading Packages:

And at the end...
Code:
Error Downloading Packages:

I'll try it without gnome-common (what a bummer to exclude that eh?) ..
Is this something that ought to go to a bug at Red Hat's bugzilla? I've never posted a bug, even though I administer rhel and use fedora extensively...
