Dual display - menus wont go -> DISPLAY:0.1

I've got an F11 system running an nVidia 9400. I'm running a separate X window to another monitor.
It has all it's own menus, just like my main monitor. I'd like to have the menus on DISPLAY:0.1 open
applications on that monitor. Is there a way to set my DISPLAY environment variable dependent on which monitor's menu I clicked?

Alternatively, is there a way to move apps from one monitor to the other? With separate X screens only the mouse moves freely.

The only way I've found so far is really ugly and involves setting the DISPLAY var for some specific apps in a cheesy wrapper script.

Thanks,
Marty
