USB Modem Problem "Sprint U760"

Hello all, I'm running FC10 and I recently purchased a Sprint U760 USB EVDO Modem. I'm having great trouble trying to get it to work under Fedora. From the instructions that I've found various places on the web the only things that were necessary were to unmount the device as it initially loaded as a media device(flash drive). After this was done all that was supposed to be done is load the usb serial module with the product Id and vendor id of the device. Once all that was done theoretically one is supposed to be able to access the device at ttyUSB0 with either kppp or wvdial. This approach worked for me on two occasions, however it just suddenly stopped working the third time I inserted the device. Now when i load the device and do a lsmod I see usb_storage loaded and usbserial loaded and it says usbserial is being used by option. can anyone tell me how to correct this problem as I'm in dire need to use the device and I cannot do without my Linux. The device works fine on the Windows side of my dual boot box. Also can anyone tell me what the "option" module is used by and what it is used for? Also last but not least, even when I manually unload the usb_storage module, the usbserial module and the option module then manually reload the usbserial module with the correct parameters kppp still says it cannot see/access the device ttyUSB0. Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Has it turned up in NetworkManager? Left click and you may see it amongst the wired and wireless connections.

No it does not show when i left click on network manager, the only thing that shows is

"Wired Network
disconnected
VPN Connections >"

Any additional thoughts or ideas???

I updated network manager and shut down and restarted it actually detected the device and established a connection automatically, I don't know what the behaviour will be but I'm going to shut down a few time and monitor it. it does appear to be slower than it was on Windows side.
