Emacs GUI

I just installed emacs on f10 but it doesn't start after i click on its link under Applications -> Accessories.

I just tried it using the "emacs" command inside the terminal window and it worked fine with no gui.

What do i need to do so that i can use in my gui?

Thanks

When I click on the link, i get a tab at the bottom of the screen saying "Starting Emacs Text Editor" but that disappears after a few seconds.

not sure why one would want a GUI for emacs (or vi for that matter) but what happens if you run "xemacs" in a terminal? it should either start emacs in a GUI or give you the error in the shell why it won't.

well fedora always runs shiny new version of packages, sometimes in beta if they are deemed stable enough. if you only want stable packages that always work you might want to check out CentOS. Fedora is always on the move to a place where stuff breaks if you look at it twice.... :-)

but if you are just starting to use linux .... why on earth go for (x)emacs, aren't 'gedit' or tools like that more 2009? I mean xemacs looks as if it was build in the 1980's....

I tried "yum remove emacs" then downloaded a source package,
folowed the instructions
"./configure" then "make" followed by "src/emacs -q"...this ran emacs ok in text mode,
at this stage there is no link for emacs under Application --> Accessories.
Then i ran "make install"....new link appears under Application --> Accessories
but when I click on this link, i get a tab saying "Starting Emacs Text Editor" but that disappears after a few seconds and no new window.

Someone please point me in the right direction
