java hangs on futex_wait
*I sent the following to OpenJDK mailing list:
Hey there!
I'm running fedora 10, with OpenJDK 1.6, and developing with NetBeans 6.5, lately I got a problem with any java application, I can't run any java-based application and always receiving a "futex_wait" hanging on any java based application, I mean, when I run a java-based application I get a hanging interface and when i take a look at running process I see the java process is hanging in "futex_wait" FOR EVER and the application won't run ... I mean here by java-based application a application developed by me maybe, or any other like "netbeans" itself I cant run it, neither "logfactor5", nor any java application or applet for example ...
what I did lately in the system before that appears was installaing "fedora eclipse", and updated the system, I removed all the eclipse stuff and the problem still there, please help me to fix it and/or fix the bug ... Thanks!
*And received this answer:
You should probably ask on a Fedora mailing list. You should also use
jps and jstack to get a stack dump from the stuck process.
** Anybody could help me on solving this please?

I was able finally to run a java-based application after noticing some strange behavior on my PC, and I need some help on how to fix it:
First, after a clear boot on my Fedora 10, I notice that "gvfs-fuse-daemon" is in futex_wait channel, then I tried to run a java-based application so I noticed that it's gettin in futex_wait, and another process also get this which is "imsettings-applet" ...
What I did next is killing all those three process, then retry to run my netbeans and finally it works ... the problem now is after re-boot, the "gvfs-fuse-daemon" come up in futex_wait again and I need each time to kill it ... is it a bug in it? should I find a way to completley remove it from the system? or there is any specific known fix ??
Thanks!

another thing:
If I boot up, then just kill "gvfs-fuse-daemon", this wont make netbeans run, when I run netbeans I get this "imsettings-applet" in futex_wait chanell and must kill it before being able to run netbeans ...
overall, what happens is that I must kill both of "imsettings-applet" and "gvfs-fuse-daemon" processes to be able to use the java ... how can I fix this???

I just tried to start by killing "imsettings-applet" first, but that doesn't change anything, I'm not sure if it's the responsible of the futex_wait of "gvfs-fuse-daemon" but again what the only thing I know now is that I must kill them and any previous futex_wait process [like a java-based application that was in the memory] ...
ok so any thoughts?

I have ran into the exact same problem. My problem isn't related to netbeans in any way. It seems to be related to Swing. I was programming a Java Swing application in Eclipse when at somepoint I decided to run/test my application and BAM it hang instantaneously after starting it. A quick strace revealed the 'crashed' JVM was in futex_wait.
Other Java Swing applications like Adempiere are also affected by this. SWT applications like Azureus and Eclipse don't seem to be affected.
Edit: For completeness sake: This was with the Sun JDK 1.6.0_13

I received a notification from redhat mailing list that this should be fixed after 'imsettings' and 'OpenJDK' update ... just check for system updates and download them ...

Try installing the libX11 update fix. That seems to have fixed a lot of problems people have been having with Java, Emacs, and a whole bunch of other GUi apps after a recent update.

I fully updated my Fedora 10 installation yesterday so that shouldn't be the problem. For some reason a reboot stopped the problem from occurring. Well as long as it stays that way that's good enough for me I guess
