Audio and TV card blocked, somehow...

Hi ppl.

I'm using F10, x86.

In WindowMaker, if I try to access either Audigy2 or a TV card through tvtime or other app, they seem to be busy/unavailable. Same happens e.g. in fluxbox. Simply running alsamixer in xterm gives me this:

Code:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: Permission denied
I tried in both, on my machine with Gnome as primary desktop and in VBox.

But there is one thing in common. It happens only if I log in to WMaker either only from RL 3 with startx or when using xdm/wdm. If I log in thru GDM, it's all fine!

If anyone knows what can be the problem, I would be grateful, as I seem to be lost with this.

EDIT:

I checked permissions on files in /dev/snd before and they are just the same as always and everything works with GDM login. So out of desperation, after changing group to e.g. audio and making myself member of that group fixes the problem in WMaker/Fluxbox with no login or xdm/wdm. But why the heck it works with gdm login!? Go figure...
