FC10 rtorrent --with-xmlrpc-c for wTorrent webUI

This is an approximate guide that worked for me after endless hours of googling how to finally compile rtorrent with xmlrpc-c support, hope it helps. You might need to install a few dependencies when ./configure fails using yum, like subversion, libsigc++20 libsigc++20-devel, ncurses, libedit.i386 and some others that are easily installed by yum package manager.
(Get the latest super stable version 1.06.x not the 1.11)
    wget http://ovh.dl.sourceforge.net/source...pc-1.06.23.tgz
    tar zxfv xmlrpc-1.06.23.tgz
    cd xmlrpc-1.06.23
./configure --prefix=/usr --disable-cplusplus (very important to do it this way)
    make
    make install
    mkdir rtorrent-svn
    cd rtorrent-svn
    svn co svn://rakshasa.no/libtorrent/trunk
    svn up
    cd trunk
    cd libtorrent
    ./autogen.sh
    ./configure --prefix=/usr
    make
    make install
    cd ../rtorrent
    ./autogen.sh
    ./configure –with-xmlrpc-c
    make
    make install
    echo “scgi_port = localhost:5000” >> .rtorrent.rc or download example config file and edit it by adding scgi_port = localhost:5000.
rtorrent (see that it works with xmlrpc-c support)

Now you can install any front-end, I personally went for wTorrent and you can follow their standard guides to complete the rest of the installation.

If you have any questions, you are more than welcome to ask.

    Hello,

I've just followed these instructions for a CentOS box - and I have no reason not to believe the following will hold true for Fedora

the packages I required to ensure everything would compile could be collected with

    yum install libcurl-devel libidn-devel ncurses-devel ncurses gcc-c++ openssl openssl-devel krb5-devel zlib-devel libsepol-devel keyutils-libs-devel e2fsprogs-devel device-mapper-libs device-mapper-devel device-mapper libtool automake autoconf subversion perl-URI libsigc++20 libsigc++20-devel libedit curl-devel
    /* no comment */

Re: FC10 rtorrent --with-xmlrpc-c for wTorrent webUI

In Fedora 14 rtorrent is currently at version 0.8.7, and it is compiled with --with-xmlrpc-c option (I looked into RPM .spec configuration file).

So stock rtorrent in fedora should work with rtgui or any other webui, but mine crashes

When I start rtorrent I get these messages in rtorrent:
    (15:37:52) Using 'epoll' based polling.
    (15:37:52) Using 'epoll' based polling.
(15:37:52) XMLRPC initialized with 836 functions.
(15:37:52) The SCGI socket is bound to a specific network device yet
may still pose a security risk, consider using 'scgi_local'.
    (15:37:52) Closed XMLRPC log.

    .rtorrent.rc has this line added:
    scgi_port = localhost:5000

and when I try to connect to http://localhost/rtgui rtorrent just crashes:

    rtorrent crash:
    Stack dump not enabled.
    Aborted (core dumped)

If I comment scgi_port line I can't connect to rtorrent but is also doesn't crash (obviously), I don't know what other things and how to troubleshoot so any help is much appreciated.

After I get rtorrent and rtgui up and running I'll write an article on my blog and on this forum so that others don't have to go through same pain as I did

I tried compiling libtorrent and rtorrent from svn, and I got libtorrent compiled and installed without problems, but while "make" for rtorrent this is the error that breaks compilation process:

I get same issue when trying to compile rtorrent 0.8.8 from source, probably some dependency issue but can't track it down...

    Try

    Code:
    env LDFLAGS="-lpthread" ./configure
or there might be a configure option to do it

Edit here's the patch used in fedora's rtorrent package

Re: FC10 rtorrent --with-xmlrpc-c for wTorrent webUI

Thank you, after using "env LDFLAGS="-lpthread" ./configure --with-xmlrpc-c" rtorrent finally compiled, and runs great. Even better is that rtgui doesn't crash rttorrent as it does 0.8.7 version.

I'll ask rtorrent maintainers to update rtorrent package to 0.8.8 version so this issue is fixed

Now you can just install latest rtorrent via yum and everything works!
