Deleting unwanetd files in 'root'

I am a newbie, just switched from Vista to Fed10. Have a problem:
Accidentally I downloaded some pictures form phone to root directory. I am unable to delete these files now- I cant change the permissions of this folder.. It says, your are not the owner.
What can I do?

i would suggest you

1. open your terminal, type "su" then type your root password then enter

2. type cd /root (say your pictures are in /root)

3. type ls (to see they are listed there)

4. type rm -f *.jpg (if they all have .jpg extension or you could replce *.jpg by individual photo name)

On the Gnome Panel there is a "Start Here" button just like in Microsoft Windows but it looks like a hat. Click on it.

Now scroll down to "System Tools" and let that slide out from the menu another gui where you can scroll down to "Terminal". Click on that.

A gui will pop up that looks sort of like an old fashioned dos prompt.

Inside that gui type:

su -

Don't forget that dash after the "su".

When it asks you for the root password type it out and hit the enter key.

You are now the "root" or "super-user" of the computer.

Now type:

ls -al

this will show you a complete list of all the files in the directory: /root

to remove the files you want type:

rm -f filename

When you are done deleting the files you can exit the gui by typing.. "exit" two times.
