sound recorder problem in fedora 10

Dear Sir,

I recently installed fedora 10. I installed all alsa drivers from livna and atrpms. I removed all pulse audio rpms because I want to use only alsa. My audio device is 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller. I am able to play music using vlc or real player. They are working fine. But when I want to record using either sound recorder or audacity it's not working. How to configure it can you please help me. I desperately need help. Thanks in advacne.

When I open volume control, recording tab it always showing red buttons on capture and mux means it's not enabled. I have to enabe the buttons of capture and mux every time. Then if i record through external mic there is lot buzzing noise.

One reason may be because both laptop mic and extenal mic are on and laptop mic taking outside noise. How to enable only external mic for audio recording?
