wireless channel detection?

As I have used wireless on my machines, one thing I have noticed is that when someone too close to you is on the same channel as you are it causes intermittent operation. I think it would be nice to add a feature to the wireless network setup to be able to see not only what networks are out there, but what channel they are on as well. does any one know if this could be done? I am not sure what information a wireless router is capable of relaying. It must be able to see all the channels since it can see all the other networks out there, who will not all be on the same channel. These kind of features would sure be useful for setting up your wireless! Maybe in fedora 11?
