Question ethernet card always in inactive state....cant connect to net

Hi,
I hav installed fedora9 on my system,i connect to internet through lancard using static ip...I hav configured my ip while installing my F9..... but 2 comps in system tray show cross mark(i.e it tells tat the network is disconnected)....when i left clik those two comps it shows device unmanaged(eth1)......if i go to system>adminstrator>network my eth1 device will be inactive....if i make it active it asks to restart the system .....
If i disable network n then enable network (by right cliking two comps on system tray)without restarting, active eth1 becomes inactive, n the cross mark on those two comps in sys tray still remain ......when i restart the system my eth1 becomes inactive ,i hav selected active on boot option.....

When i go to edit options in netwok ,my eth1 device is configured i.e. it shows all my IP adress corectly ....
I hav my windows instlled on same machine i am able to connect to net in windows.....
can any one help ...
PLS INFORM IF U DONT UNDERSTAND THE MESSAGE ?
pls help me urgent ...i hav exams i need to work on F9

Thank u.....

If your having problems with a static network addressing setup, try this, edit
Quote:
/etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth1
(in my case this was eth0 not eth1, whatever your network device is).
Set
Code:
 ONBOOT=yes
If this is not present or set to no, that is your probably the problem.

You may have to comment out with a # the following entries too
Code:
#USERCTL=yes
#NM_CONTROLLED=no
I rebooted my system after making these changes and networking starts at bootup as it should, and this also eliminates the problem with software updates claiming your offline even after manually starting networking and refusing to download packages.
